Lucinda Mackworth-Young is an inspirational international lecturer, workshop leader, author, pianist and piano teacher.
Specializing in teaching piano to adults of all ages and stages, the hallmarks of her work are an unerring belief in people’s abilities to achieve the goals that inspire and excite them, and a deeply practical approach, grounded in over forty years’ teaching experience.
With an equal love of music, dance and psychology, Lucinda has pioneered Practical Psychology for Musicians who are Teaching, Learning and Performing since the 1990s, she has created a system for learning how to Play by Ear and Improvise in Simple Steps, and she has developed Dance for Musicians.
Well known for her very entertaining approach, shedding light on many of the problems encountered daily, and offering a wealth of practical tips, Lucinda inspires and refreshes music teaching, learning and performing with a special multisensory magic.
As International Director of the leading Piano Teachers’ Course UK www.pianoteacherscourse.org, Lucinda provides professional development for teachers nationally and internationally, and she gives numerous courses for late starter piano players at Benslow Music www.benslowmusic.org. She also works closely with ABRSM and Trinity and provides training for teachers teaching those syllabuses.
Her recent Faber Music publication, Piano by Ear, designed to help everyone learn to play by ear and improvise in simple steps, was finalist in the 2016 Music Teacher Awards for Excellence, and remains a top seller.
Also, her highly recommended, innovative and readable book TUNING IN: Practical Psychology for Musicians, published in 2001, is now available as an e-book published by Informance.
